Dr. Lekhasri Samantsinghar, Independent Director, visited BHEL 2X660 MW Talcher Thermal Power Project Site, Angul, Odisha on 26th July 2023.  She familiarised herself with the project activities and also reviewed the progress of the project. She met NTPC Officials and BHEL team and took stock of the difficulties being faced by BHEL in execution of the project. Director made a note of the critical aspect of the closure of the Road passing through the middle of the Plant connecting Jagnnathpur Village to Anand Bazar, which is impeding delay of the project. Director was also briefed about the local issues being faced by the Site during execution of the project.

Dr. Lekhasri Samantsinghar, Independent Director/BHEL visited BHEL IOCL Paradip SRU Site

“Dr. Lekhasri Samantsinghar, Independent Director/BHEL visited BHEL IOCL Paradip SRU Site on 29.07.23 along with Director (IS&P) and ED/IS.

During the visit Director interacted with the site team of BHEL. Site incharge appraised and familiarised them about the work being executed by BHEL at IOCL Paradip Refinery and also explained about the importance of Sulphur Recovery Unit in a Petroleum Refinery.

Director also interacted with site workmen and took stock of the site working environment & motivated the entire Site team.”

Shri Ramesh Patlya Mawaskar, Independent Director/BHEL visited of BHEL-IS Office

“Shri Ramesh Patlya Mawaskar, Independent Director/BHEL visited of BHEL-IS Office on 05.08.2023.

Director reviewed BHEL’s capabilities in the field of Renewable Energy.

 SBD Group, New Delhi made a presentation highlighting BHEL journey in Solar PV and capabilities in manufacturing of wide range of equipment and EPC capabilities in area of Floating  Solar Power Plants, Solar Power Plant for Railway traction application.

 Shri Mawaskar had interaction with Director (IS&P) on Industry sector businesses.”

“Shri Ramesh Patlya Mawaskar, Independent Director/BHEL attended two days Orientation Summit held on 5th – 6th October, 2023, for Independent Directors conducted by Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) at Tamarind Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003. The program interalia covered the following topics:

• Board Governance: What, Why and How?
• Effectiveness of Independent Directors at CPSE Boards
• Role of IDs in CSR Committee
• Role of IDs in Audit Committee
• Regulatory Framework on Role & Responsibilities of IDs
• Preparing for Board Meeting: Before, During & After
• Board Dynamics & Management Relationships
• Managing Risk & Uncertainties in CPSE Governance
• Understanding Finance For Effective Decision Making
• Learning Resources and Tools with IICA and DPE

The program also held discussion with Expert Panel and Open house (Situational case lets) discussions.”

As a part of familiarisation programmes for Directors, presentations were made to Shri Krishna Kumar Thakur, Director (HR) and Shri Tajinder Gupta, Director (Power) on the following subjects :

• Historical background, corporate structure and brief overview
• Contribution to strategic and core sectors of the economy
• All India Presence: Major Manufacturing Units
• Financial Performance – Last 5 years
• Roadmap for future - Strategic Plan 2022-27

The presentations were made on 12th October,2023 from 11:00 am to 01:45 pm.

“Dr. K Sivaprasad, Independent Director visited BHEL Haridwar on 20.10.2023.

During his visit, he was apprised there with few blocks of HEEP & CFFP plant., He was familiarized about the machining, testing & handling facilities for large-size Turbo Generator assemblies in Electrical Machines Shop. He appreciated 5S of the blocks especially the underground push-rod chip conveyor system in New Blade Shop which is contributing towards cleanliness of the Shop. He appreciated the fitting of T-groove blades in Turbine Rotors and dynamic testing facility at Over Speed Balancing Tunnel (OSBT) with precision.

Dr. Sivaprasad interacted with the shop floor teams and motivated the teams to continue their new initiatives under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan of the GoI. He also commended the maintenance and upkeep of old machine tools. He appreciated the quality and finish of Aluminium welding in the Defence Shop and facility of large size casting and forgings in the CFFP plant.  He visited the CEFC extension Centre established for welder’s training and was impressed with the facilities and lauded the efforts being undertaken by the BHEL management for developing critically required welding skills in the country.

Dr. Sivaprasad also participated in the awareness prog. about Swachhta 3.0 campaign.”

“As a part of familiarisation programmes for newly inducted Directors, a presentations was made to Ms. Bani  Varma, Director (IS&P) on 16.01.2024 from 11am to 1:30pm regarding important statutory & regulatory provisions under Companies Act, 2013, Listing (Obligation & Disclosure Requirements ) Regulations, 2015, DPE Guidelines and Secretarial Standards issued by Institute of Company Secretaries of India with emphasis on provisions concerning Directors.

As a part of familiarisation programmes for Directors, Shri Jai Prakash Srivastava, Director (E, R&D) and (Finance)-addl. charge attended orientation programme on Capacity Building of Functional Directors of CPSEs organised by DPE on 19th and 20th January-2024 at Guwahati.  The orientation programme included following topics:

• Roles & Responsibilities of Directors of CPSEs
• Transformative Board Leadership
• Preparing for Board Meetings: Before, During & After
• Enhancing effectiveness of Audit Committee
• Choosing Calmness over Chaos
• Vigilance Management in CPSEs
• Improving effectiveness of Audit function in CPSEs
• Arbitration in CPSEs and DPE AMRCD portal.”

• Preparing for Board Meetings: Before, During & After
• Choosing Calmness over Chaos
• Vigilance Management in CPSEs
• Improving effectiveness of Audit function in CPSEs
• Arbitration in CPSEs.
