Appointment of New Directors in BHEL.
On their appointment as Directors on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Mr. A.K. Mathur has assumed charge as Director (Industrial Systems & Products) and Mr. K. Ravi Kumar as Director (Power) of India's Navratna Public Sector engineering and manufacturing enterprise, here today.
Earlier, Mr.A.K.Mathur was the Executive Director of Company’s manufacturing plant at Trichy while as Executive Director, Mr.K. Ravi Kumar was heading BHEL’s Power Sector (Marketing) division,
A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, Mr. Mathur joined BHEL in 1968 and became General Manager/Incharge for Power Sector Northern Region (PSNR) of BHEL in 2000, handling Thermal and Hydro Construction and Power Station Renovation Projects. He was instrumental in setting new benchmarks in the setting up of both large thermal units as well as combined cycle plants by reducing cycle time.
With more than 36 years of professional experience, Mr. Mathur has an outstanding track record in the field of construction management of sites at Faridabad, Panipat, Badarpur and Singrauli for the erection and commissioning of steam generators, steam turbines, associated electrical and instrumentation works of unit sizes up to 500 MW, including turnkey installation of 420 MW Tenughat Thermal Power Station at Jharkhand.
After completing his M.Tech from IIT Madras and Post Graduation in Business Administration, Mr. Ravi Kumar joined BHEL in 1975 after a brief stint in the private sector. He made significant contributions in various key functions like Engineering of Control Equipment Products in Electronics Division Bangalore, Construction and Project Management of Thermal, Hydro, Nuclear and Industrial sets in Power Sector Southern Region and Head of Marketing of Power Sector.
During his stay, new technologies in the field of coal and gas-based power plants were introduced for the first time into the country and were meticulously executed. Some of these were Tower type boilers at Vijayawada, Advance Class Gas Turbines at Kovilkalappal in Tamil Nadu, Once through boilers at Talcher etc. During Mr. K. Ravi Kumar’s tenure as Head of Power- Sector Marketing, an all-time high order booking of about Rs.135,000 Million was achieved in the Power Sector business segment, during fiscal 2004-05.
