BHEL bags major order for 110.6 MW Captive Power Plant.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured yet another order for a captive power plant to be installed in a steel plant in Gujarat.

Reposing confidence in BHEL's capabilities, the Essar Group has placed an order for a 110.6 MW Gas Turbine Generator Set for an open cycle captive power plant for the expansion of the existing captive power plant at Essar Group’s Hazira project.

Valued at nearly Rs.1130 Million, this is an important contract for BHEL and is a testimony to the customer's confidence in BHEL's capabilities. The supplies for the project are slated for completion in a very tight schedule of just 14 months.

For Essar, BHEL is already executing an order for a captive power plant of similar rating at Hazira. The project is in an advanced stage and is expected to be commissioned shortly. The synchronization of these units will ensure continuous supply of 216 MW of quality power to the steel plant, which will be highly cost-effective for the customer, ultimately making the end product cost-effective.

BHEL's scope of work in the current project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, transportation, supervision of installation, erection, testing and commissioning of a 110.6 MW Gas Turbine Generator with state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) and associated auxiliaries. While the Gas Turbine Generator will be manufactured at BHEL's Hyderabad plant, the company’s Electronics Division, Bangalore will supply the controls. The supervision of erection and commissioning of the equipment will be carried out by the company's Power Sector - Western Region, Nagpur.

BHEL has emerged as the market leader in co-generation and captive power plants, offering units from 10 MW onwards for both steam turbine based and gas-based combined cycle power projects for total power and process steam requirements of various industries.

So far, the company has supplied and commissioned more than 700 steam turbine and gas turbine-based plants for a host of industries like metal, paper, sugar, cement and process industries like refineries, petrochemicals, fertilizer etc. In addition, BHEL has established itself as a supplier of gas turbine-generators to utilities in India and abroad.
