BHEL bags order for 43 MW Captive Power Plant.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a repeat order for a captive power plant from KSK Energy Ventures Limited - an Independent Power Producer (IPP).

The contract for setting up the 43 MW Captive Power Plant has been placed on BHEL by Sitapuram Power Limited, a company promoted by KSK Energy Ventures Limited, Hyderabad, and is a measure of the customer's confidence in BHEL's technological excellence and capability in execution of captive power projects.

To be set up in district Nalgonda of Andhra Pradesh, the power project will cater to the captive power needs of Vishnu Cement. BHEL will execute the contract in a tight schedule of thirteen and a half months.

BHEL is already executing two orders for captive power plants for the same customer. While one order envisages setting up a 58 MW environment friendly gas-based Combined Cycle Power Plant for Regency Power Corporation Limited in Tamil Nadu; the other involves setting up of a 43 MW captive power plant for Arasmeta Captive Power Company in Chhattisgarh. Both these companies have been promoted by KSK Energy Ventures.

BHEL’s scope of work in the present contract envisages manufacture, supply and supervision of erection & commissioning of a 43 MW Steam Turbine Generator (STG) set along with associated auxiliaries. The equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Hyderabad plant.

Over the years, BHEL has supplied and commissioned thermal, hydro and gas-based power generating equipment with a cumulative capacity of over 2,700 MW to several power projects promoted by Independent Power Producers like Tata Power, Reliance Energy, Ahmedabad Electricity Supply Company, CESC, Bhilwara and Jindal groups etc.

BHEL has emerged as the market leader in gas-based combined cycle power projects for various industries with a market share of nearly 90%. The company is also a market leader in co-generation and captive power plants, offering these units in a range of 5 to 130 MW capacities. So far, BHEL has supplied and commissioned more than 600 steam turbine-based plants for a host of industries like metal, paper, sugar, cement and process industries like refineries, petrochemicals, fertilizer etc.
