BHEL bags order for Lift Irrigation Scheme in Andhra Pradesh.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an order for setting up a Lift Irrigation Scheme in Andhra Pradesh. The scheme will benefit thousands of farmers of the state by irrigating 2.75 Lakh hectares of parched land and making it arable.
Won against stiff competition, the order for the 5x30 MW Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme has been placed on BHEL by Gammon India, who secured the EPC contract for the project from the AP Govt. BHEL is already executing Stage-I of the Scheme, the order for which was placed on the company by Patel Engineering.
BHEL’s scope of work in the project envisages design, manufacture, supply, testing, and erection and commissioning of Pumps, Motors, Controls and Excitation equipment with other associated auxiliaries.
While the Pumps and Motors will be manufactured at BHEL’s Bhopal plant, the-state-of-the-art Controls and Excitation equipment will be supplied by the company’s Electronics Division, Bangalore.
BHEL is also presently executing an order for Nettampadu Stage-I & II (7x17 MW), the order for which was received in two stages against Competitive Bidding from Patel Engineering. Earlier, the company has executed a contract for the 4x18 MW Srisailam Left Bank Canal, also in Andhra Pradesh.
BHEL has so far manufactured and supplied nearly 400 hydro generating sets with a cumulative capacity of over 16,500 MW to various utilities in India and abroad. These include 35 hydro sets corresponding to 1409 MW outside India, in various countries including Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Azerbaijan and Bhutan.
