Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a prestigious contract, valued at Rs.12,240 Million, for setting up a 500 MW thermal power plant (2x250 MW) in Uttar Pradesh.

Reposing confidence in BHEL’s capability and technological excellence, Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) has placed orders for setting up 2 units of 250 MW each (Units 5&6) at Parichha TPS Extn. The project is slated for commissioning in fiscal 2009-10.

With this, BHEL has maingtained its track record of bagging most of the orders placed by UPRUVNL for power generating equipment in Uttar Pradesh. So far, BHEL has commissioned over 9,000 MW of power generating sets in the state. These include thermal, gas-based, nuclear and hydro units of various ratings.

For the same customer, BHEL is already executing a contract for setting up 2 units of 210 MW capacity each (Units 3&4) at Parichha TPS Extn., of which one unit has been commissioned.

BHEL’s scope of work in the present contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the main plant package along with associated auxiliaries and civil works for the main plant package for this power project. The equipment for the project shall be supplied by BHEL’s Haridwar, Trichy, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Bhopal and Jhansi plants, while BHEL’s Power Sector – Northern Region will undertake erection and commissioning of the equipment.

BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for the manufacture of thermal sets of up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating suited to Indian conditions using Indian as well as imported coal. Till date, all the eleven 250 MW thermal units operating in the country have been supplied and commissioned by BHEL.

Presently, BHEL is executing orders for two units each of 250 MW capacity for Korba East TPS of CSEB, Lehra Mohabbat TPS of PSEB, Bhilai Expansion TPS of BESCL and Mejia and Chandrapura TPS of DVC, in addition to one unit each at Parli and Paras TPS of MSEB and Santaldih TPS of WBPDCL.
