BHEL bags Rs.1,4640 Million mega EPC contract for 2x250 MW Bhilai Expansion TPS.
Outbidding a leading Chinese equipment supplier in international competitive bidding, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won an EPC contract for setting up two units of 250 MW each at Bhilai Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh.
Valued at Rs.1,4640 Million, the order has been placed on BHEL by the Bhilai Electric Supply Company Private Limited (BESCL) – a 50:50 Joint Venture of NTPC and SAIL, who have reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude.
BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the main plant package including balance of plant, besides complete civil works, on EPC basis.
The Turbine Generators and Boilers will be manufactured at the company’s Haridwar and Trichy plants respectively, while the C&I system will be supplied by BHEL’s Electronics Division, Bangalore. The company’s Hyderabad plant will manufacture the Coal Mills and Boiler Feed Pumps while the Electricals & Switchyard equipment will be supplied by BHEL's Bhopal and Jhansi plants. BHEL's Ranipet plant will manufacture and supply the ESPs. Erection and commissioning of the equipment will be undertaken by the company’s Power Sector - Western Region, Nagpur.
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for the manufacture of thermal sets of up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1000 MW rating. Till date, all the eleven 250 MW thermal units operating in the country have been supplied and commissioned by BHEL.
Presently, BHEL is executing orders for two units each of 250 MW capacity for Korba East TPS of CSEB, Lehra Mohabbat TPS of PSEB and Mejia and Chandrapura TPS of DVC, in addition to one unit each at Parli and Paras TPS of MSEB and Santaldih TPS of WBPDCL.
BHEL has also recently won its single-largest contract from an Independent Power Producer (IPP) for a thermal power project comprising 4 units of 250 MW each, in Chhattisgarh. The contract for the 1,000 MW Raigarh TPS, has been placed on BHEL by Jindal Power Ltd., a company promoted by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.
