BHEL bags Rs.21,200 Million Mega Contract for two Power Projects from APGenco.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a prestigious contract for the supply and erection of the Main Plant Package for two separate 500 MW Thermal Power Stations (TPS) in Andhra Pradesh.
Valued at Rs.21,200 Million, the order for Vijaywada TPS (1x500MW) and Bhoopalapally TPS (1x500 MW), has been placed on BHEL by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) and is a measure of the customer's confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capabilities in execution of power projects of this magnitude.
While Vijaywada TPS, an extension project of an existing power station is slated for commissioning in a schedule of 39 months; Bhoopalapally TPS, a Greenfield project is targeted for commissioning in 41 months. The projects will go a long way in augmenting the country’s capacity addition programme in the Eleventh Plan.
BHEL’s scope of work in these contracts envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Steam Turbines, Generators, Boilers, associated Auxiliaries, Electricals besides state-of-the-art Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) systems and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs).
The Turbine Generators and Boilers will be manufactured at the company’s Haridwar and Trichy plants respectively, while the C&I system will be supplied by BHEL’s Electronics Division, Bangalore. The company’s Hyderabad plant will manufacture the Coal Mills and Boiler Feed Pumps, while the Electricals will be supplied by BHEL's Bhopal and Jhansi plants. BHEL's Ranipet plant will manufacture and supply the ESPs.
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for the manufacture of thermal sets up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating for power projects suited to Indian conditions and Indian coal. So far, the company has won orders for 37 numbers 500 MW sets. Out of these, 25 sets have been commissioned and are operating at Trombay, Singrauli, Ramagundam, Korba, Farakka, Chandrapur, Simhadri, Talcher, Rihand and Vindhyachal. These units are performing exceedingly well with a Plant Load Factor of 84.5% and an impressive Operating Availability of over 90%.
