BHEL bags Rs.3,800 Million Renovation & Modernisation contract from PSEB
Outbidding Indian and multinational companies in an open tender, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a turnkey contract for Renovation, Modernisation and Uprating of two thermal generating units of Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) at Bhatinda in Punjab.
Reposing confidence in BHEL’s capabilities, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has placed the order worth nearly Rs.3,800 Million on the company, for Renovation and Modernisation (R&M) of 2x110 MW Units (3&4) at GNDTP. In addition, BHEL will uprate the units from their existing capacity of 110 MW to 120 MW each.
This will lead to increased availability and generation, besides life extension of the units by over 15 years. The first set is targeted for commissioning by BHEL in a tight schedule of 20 months and the second unit in ten months thereafter.
BHEL is one of the few companies in the world to have established state-of-the-art technology and expertise for R&M and Uprating of both hydro and thermal power stations. Retrofitting of power plants by BHEL not only revives the ageing power plants but also helps in operating them at higher levels of productivity.
Significantly, having supplied 65% of India's total installed power generating capacity, BHEL is well positioned to obtain future R&M business. Another significant advantage for BHEL is its established service network, spread across the country.
Presently, BHEL is executing contracts for R&M of two units of 120 MW each at Ukai TPS in Gujarat; one unit of 110 MW at Panipat TPS in Haryana; five units of 200 MW each at Obra TPS in UP and two units of 120 MW each at Gandhinagar TPS in Gujarat.
BHEL has also carried out overhauling, R&M and life extension of power plants in several countries like Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Libya, Malta, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Bhutan, etc.
