BHEL commissions 110 kWp stand alone Solar Power Plant in Sunderbans.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully installed and commissioned a 110 kWp Stand Alone Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Power Plant in Sunderbans, West Bengal.

Set up at Kayla Para, Sagar Islands, this is the second Solar Power Plant to be commissioned by BHEL against a contract for five such plants placed on the company by West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA). The remaining three units will be commissioned in a phased manner by June 2006.

The Hon’ble President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam also visited this Solar Power Plant and admired the efforts of WBREDA and BHEL in harnessing renewable energy for the welfare of people living in remote parts of the country.

BHEL has earlier installed SPV Plants of 55 kWp & 105 kWp at Mousuni Island in the Sunderbans as-well-as 110 kWp at Rakalpur in Sagar islands. These plants have been providing reliable, uninterrupted and environment-friendly power to the remote communities in the Sunderbans and Sagar Islands.

The Kayla Para Solar Power Plant is equipped with 150 Wp Solar PV Panels, Battery Banks, Balance of Systems, state-of-the-art Power Conditioning Units (PCUs) along with a Control Room for housing the battery banks, PCUs and the Control Desk. The power generated by the Solar Panels is stored in battery banks and distributed to households through an overhead transmission line. BHEL has also supplied pre-paid energy meters for metering the energy supplied.

The 150 watt PV module used in this power plant is the highest rated PV module manufactured by BHEL. These modules are manufactured and tested at the ultra-modern manufacturing facilities set up by BHEL at its Electronics Division in Bangalore.

Following rigorous testing, these modules have been awarded international certification by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), Joint Research Centre (JRC), European Commission, ISPRA, Italy. This prestigious international recognition has enhanced BHEL’s competitive edge in national and international markets.

Backed by a vast experience of over two decades, BHEL has emerged as one of the leading players in the field of Solar Photovoltaic. From small applications like Solar Powered Street Lights, Rural Water Pumping Systems, Railway Signaling, Offshore Drilling Platforms, BHEL has supplied and commissioned large-size Stand-Alone as well as Grid-Interactive Solar Power Plants in a number of cities and remote areas of the country. Solar cells and modules manufactured by the company have also been exported to various countries like Germany, Australia, Korea, Italy and Thailand.
