BHEL enters the ‘Limca book of Records 2006’

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has added another feather in its cap by entering the prestigious Limca book of Records. Reflecting BHEL’s dominant position in the country’s engineering and power plant equipment sector, the 2006 edition of the Limca book of Records features BHEL under the ‘Doing India Proud’ section.

Lauding the company’s commitment to serve the nation, the book recognizes BHEL’s contribution to the power development programme of India. Set up with a mission to make the country self-reliant in the manufacture of power plant equipment, BHEL has not only lived up to its mandate but also far surpassed its original expectations.

Today, BHEL sets generate 73% of the total power generated in the country although accounting for 65% of India’s total installed generating capacity. In real terms, that translates into approximately three out of every four homes in India being lit up with power generated by BHEL sets!

BHEL has been contributing in a major way to the country’s capacity addition plans and has in fact consistently been exceeding CEA’s commissioning targets. The company’s equipment has also consistently been registering a higher Plant Load Factor and Operating Availability than the national average efficiency parameters.

For gearing up to meet the country's power capacity addition targets towards the agenda of providing ‘Power to all by 2012’, BHEL is presently investing more than Rs.16,000 Million for holistic modernization and capacity expansion of its facilities. The focus of the initiative is on addition of facilities for various products in its manufacturing units and for construction tools & equipments for erection and commissioning services at customer project sites.

This is being implemented to reaffirm the company’s commitment to the power development programme of the country. The enhanced manufacturing capacity is intended to meet the present indications of the likely power capacity addition target of the Eleventh five year plan (2007-12) of over 62,000 MW. In line with the expected growth in demand, enhancement of manufacturing capacity is on course from 6,000 MW per annum at present to 10,000 MW per annum, which will be available in 2007.

Among other things, the Limca book of Records also takes on record the fact that BHEL is India's industrial ambassador to the world having supplied products/services to over 65 countries in all the six inhabited continents, from USA in the West to New Zealand in the Far East.
