BHEL outbids Chinese Companies, Wins $100 Million Power Project Contract in Indonesia.

Amidst intense competition from Chinese suppliers, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a contract for setting up a 120 MW eco-friendly Co-Generation power plant in Indonesia.

Valued at around USD 100 million, the plant will be set up for the captive use of PT Merak Energi group, Indonesia. The customer and its consultants adjudged BHEL’s offer superior to others on the basis of plant efficiency, operational & performance reliability, contemporary technology, integrated solution and operational costs.

This sea-side plant involves several unique features including the largest size Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) combustion boilers of over 250TPH capacity, capable of using a range of coals while enabling lower emissions; high efficiency Electro-Static Precipitators, complex steam extraction requirements from Steam Turbines, and a state-of-the-art maxDNA control system.

Once completed, the plant would produce power and steam for use in a Process Industry, which requires reliable, stable and quality power supply. PT Merak Energi, which is part of a very reputed Industrial group, will work closely with BHEL to take over and operate the plant on completion using its project experience and training from BHEL.

BHEL entered the Indonesian Market in 2002 with a contract for the supply of a 22 MW Co-Generation Power Plant employing BHEL’s state-of-the-art Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustion Boilers, proven Extraction-Condensing Steam Turbines and advanced maxDNA based plant control system. The grid-connected plant went on stream in 2004 and is supplying power and steam mainly for in-house industrial consumption of PT Indo Bharat Rayon, Purwakarta with the balance power to the grid.

The growing demand for power in Indonesia coupled with deregulation and increased interest of industrial customers to set-up reliable and highly efficient plants at competitive investment levels have created a keen interest in offerings from BHEL, which has over four decades of experience and has supplied 90,000 MW of power generating capacity.
