BHEL secures single-largest export order for transformers from Egypt.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a major breakthrough in the international market for transformers by securing a prestigious export order from Egypt . Won in the face of stiff international competition, the order has been placed on BHEL by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. (EETC).

Valued at over Rs.800 million, this is the single-largest order for transformers ever received by BHEL and the maiden order for transformers from Egypt. This order is expected to give a fillip to BHEL's efforts at playing a more prominent role in the large Power Projects planned in Egypt - one of the largest countries in African continent.

The contract for the order was signed with Chairman, EETC in the presence of the Honorable Minister of Electricity and Energy of Egypt. A wholly owned Government organization under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy , Egypt, EETC is responsible for Management, Operation and Maintenance of High and Ultra high Voltage Electric Power Transmission grids, all over the country.

BHEL's scope in the contract envisages supply of 14 Transformers of 125 MVA rating to be installed in eight sub-stations of EETC, at different locations in Egypt. To be manufactured at BHEL's Jhansi plant, the transformers will be installed and commissioned under BHEL supervision.

BHEL has earlier executed a Boiler project at Al Arish in Egypt. With the above order, BHEL has also established itself in the Transmission Sector in the Egyptian Market, once again demonstrating its versatility and international competitiveness.

BHEL has established its references in over 65 countries in all the six inhabited continents of the world and its technical competence has earned worldwide acclaim. Having identified overseas business as a major thrust area, the company has achieved spectacular success in international business during fiscal 2005-06 by recording the highest-ever physical export order booking of Rs. 33,480 Million – a six-fold increase over the previous year. Notably, for the first time, export orders contributed almost one fifth of the company's total order booking during 2005-06.

With this, BHEL is poised to achieve a quantum growth in its export business driven by consolidation in existing markets and widening its export base through expansion of existing basket of products and services and entering new markets.
