BHEL showcases technological strengths at 'Powergen India & Central Asia 2006'
With a Rs.16,000 Million facility modernization and capacity augmentation programme, aimed at gearing up for the future, underway, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has showcased its technological capabilities in ‘Powergen India and Central Asia 2006’, an international exhibition and conference, being held here from October 25 to 27.
One of the few companies in the world offering the entire spectrum of power plant equipment, BHEL has rightly projected its commitment to ‘Building Capacity and Capability for the Future’.
The event assumes significance as business in the Indian power sector indicates high growth potential in the near future. In the Tenth five year plan (2002-2007), nearly 34,000 MW of fresh generating capacity is expected to be added, of which BHEL’s contribution would be about 19,500 MW. The Government has planned capacity addition target of over 62,000 MW in the Eleventh five year plan (2007-2012). In line with the expected growth in demand, BHEL is well on its way to enhancing its manufacturing capacity from 6,000 MW per annum at present to 10,000MW per annum, by 2007.
BHEL is fully equipped to capitalize on these emerging opportunities and a strategic framework that would enable BHEL to ensure reasonable growth in the years to come is in place. In addition to the ongoing programme, based on the national plan for capacity addition in the Eleventh five year plan and beyond, BHEL would be more than willing to further enhance its capacity beyond 10,000 MW to the levels required by the country’s power sector. These programmes are in the nature of brownfield expansion, adding mainly work centre capacities. Both in terms of time as well as cost-benefits, this approach has a strong economic rationale. BHEL has large reserves in addition to leveraging its capacity and can fully meet the resource requirements for its expansion on its own.
BHEL has already taken necessary steps to cater to the likely demand for the next higher rating 800 MW Thermal sets and is actively looking at opportunities in Ultra Mega projects with various project developers. In addition, the company will concentrate on shoring up its capability for higher rating Hydro sets and advanced class Gas Turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
BHEL's pavilion at the exposition highlights the company's capabilities in the power sector, through pictorial displays/translites of Thermal & Hydro Power Stations, Combined Cycle Power Plants and Gas Turbines, besides references, success stories and impressive track record in domestic and overseas markets .
