BHEL Solar Modules get International Certification.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a major milestone with the successful type-testing and award of international certification to its Solar Modules at the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) - an internationally reputed Independent Test Laboratory. This prestigious international recognition will enhance BHEL’s competitive edge in national and international markets.

BHEL’s Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Modules qualified for the certification following rigorous testing. The certification has been awarded to Solar Modules of up to 150-watt rating by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), Joint Research Centre (JRC), European Commission, ISPRA, Italy.

After subjecting BHEL’s module to a number of qualification tests including visual Inspection, electrical performance test, insulation test, hot spot endurance test, thermal cycle test, mechanical load test and hail resistance test, the certification was issued for conforming to stringent international standards, on the basis of the test results.

The 150-watt PV module is the highest-rating PV module manufactured by BHEL. The modules are manufactured and tested at the ultra-modern facilities set up at the company’s Electronics Division in Bangalore.

By using 150-watt modules, the number of modules needed per system will come down and will also improve the reliability of the system due to lesser number of series-parallel connections. These modules find applications in Solar Power Plants and also in rooftop systems. These large rating modules have been installed in the 110 kW Off-Grid Solar PV power plants for West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) at Rakhalpur and Kaylapara in Sunderbans.

Solar cells and modules manufactured by the company have also been exported to various countries like Germany, Australia, Korea, Italy and Thailand.
