BHEL wins British Safety Council’s ‘International Safety Award’ for the third consecutive year.

In recognition of its commitment to corporate health and safety and for maintaining a significantly better record than the national average, Navratna engineering and manufacturing enterprise, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has been conferred the British Safety Council’s ‘International Safety Award’ for the third consecutive year.

Presented annually for creating a culture to further the cause of safety and for innovative practices aimed at implementing safety norms, the award has been won by BHEL’s Electronics Division, Bangalore.

Prior to this, the company’s manufacturing plants, located at Haridwar, Bhopal, Hyderabad and Trichy have also been awarded the prestigious award by the British Safety Council.

BHEL has achieved sustainable growth with progressive increase in business while simultaneously ensuring continuous reduction in adverse incidents related to occupational health and safety. The company has also established its commitment towards the environment in and around its manufacturing plants, besides ensuring that its products, systems and services also meet such requirements.

As a responsible corporate citizen and to meet the exacting international standards in occupational health and safety, BHEL has secured the prestigious OHSAS-18001 certification for all its units/divisions, besides the ISO-14001 Environmental Management System certification. A quality conscious organisation with a stong customer focus, BHEL has upgraded to the latest ISO-9001: 2000 version for all its operations.

For outstanding achievements in terms of longest accident free period and lowest accident frequency rate at its works, BHEL was recently awarded four 'National Safety Awards', instituted by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. Significantly, BHEL has been winning these prestigious national awards, consecutively, since their inception.

Also, among a host of public and private sector organizations, BHEL was conferred the first ‘Safety Initiative Award’, instituted by the Safety and Quality Forum of the Institution of Engineers (India).
