BHEL wins Mega Contract for setting up 1,000 MW Power Project in UP Project to add 24 million units every day to the Grid on commissioning
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a mega contract for setting up 2 units of 500 MW each at Anpara D Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Uttar Pradesh.
Valued at Rs.33,900 Million, the order has been placed on BHEL by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) who have once again reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude. The units are slated for commissioning during 2011-12.
BHEL has already commissioned over 10,000 MW of power generating sets in the state, which include thermal, gas-based, nuclear and hydro units of various ratings. For UPRVUNL, BHEL is also presently executing orders for setting up 2 units of 250 MW each at Parichha TPS Extn and Harduaganj TPS.
BHEL's scope of work in the present contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Boiler Turbine Generator Package along with associated auxiliaries, Balance of Plant and Civil Works.
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of thermal sets up to 600 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating. So far, orders for 64 numbers of 500 MW rating sets and 1 number of 600 MW rating set have been won, of which 33 have been commissioned.
Having demonstrated its track record in successfully establishing new technologies to serve the nation's power sector, BHEL is now poised to introduce 800 MW thermal sets with supercritical parameters. BHEL has equipped itself to produce thermal power equipment for 800 MW sets and above, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal. In addition, the company is shoring up its capability for higher rating Hydro sets and advanced class Gas Turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
BHEL is building Capacity and Capability to contribute fully for meeting the power forecast for the 11 th Plan and beyond. For this, the company has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW per annum which is being further enhanced to 15,000 MW per annum in the next two years at a total investment of Rs. 3,2000 Million. Manpower is also being ramped up in a commensurate and timely manner. Besides, the company has taken broad steps like shift in operational focus from Product to Project and implementation of effective Project Management Systems.
