BHEL wins Rs.12,000 Million order for Lignite Based Power Project.
Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is to set up on turnkey basis another lignite based power project in Gujarat for GIPCL. The power plant will be equipped with an eco-friendly, state-of-the-art Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC) Boiler, specifically designed to utilize low grade fuels like lignite, high ash coal, washery rejects etc.
To this effect, GIPCL has once again reposed confidence in BHEL’s proven technological excellence and capability by placing an order valued at Rs 12000 Million for setting up 2 units of 125 MW each (Units 3&4) for Surat Lignite Thermal Power Station Expansion project. The two units will be commissioned in a tight schedule of 33 and 37 months respectively.
This order comes close on the heels of prestigious orders already received during the year for Lignite Based thermal Power Stations with CFBC Boilers for 2x 250 MW sets at Nevyeli and 2x125 at Barsingsar, both from NLC and 1x125 MW set at Giral from Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL).
The earlier units 1&2 of 125 MW each at Surat Lignite TPS of GIPCL were also supplied and erected and commissioned by BHEL. These units operated with a high Plant Load Factor (PLF) and Operating Availability (OA) of 85% and 87.5% respectively during last fiscal (2005-06).
BHEL’s scope of work in the present contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Steam Turbine Generators, Boilers, associated auxiliaries, Balance of Plant and Electricals, besides state-of-the-art Controls & Instrumentation (C&I), Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) and Switchyard including civil works.
While Steam Turbine Generators and Boilers will be manufactured at Company’s Hyderabad and Trichy plants respectively, the C&I system will be supplied by BHEL’s Electronics Division, Bangalore.
In the last three years, BHEL has been able to consistently secure orders at record levels and this has resulted in comfortable order outstanding position of Rs.37,500 crore as at the end of March, 2006.
The company is equipping itself to cater to country’s ambitious future power capacity addition programme including ultra-mega projects and has tied up technology for 800 MW thermal sets operating with super critical parameters, besides enhancing its annual manufacturing capacity from the present 6,000 MW to 10,000 MW.
