BHEL writes another success story; Gets third consecutive Captive Power Plant order from Hindustan Zinc

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has scripted one more success story with the third successive order for a Captive Power Plant (CPP) from Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL).

Valued at nearly Rs.1290 Million, the order placed by HZL (part of Vedanta Resources), reflects the customer's confidence in BHEL's technological excellence and capability in setting up captive power plants. The CPP will cater to the captive power requirements of HZL’s unit at Jawar Mines at Udaipur in Rajasthan.

BHEL has earlier executed a turnkey order for two units of 77 MW each at HZL's CPP Chanderia Lead Zinc Smelter Plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The synchronization of the units by BHEL in a very tight schedule has ensured supply of 154 MW of continuous power to the Lead Zinc Smelter, which is highly cost-effective for the customer, ultimately making the end product more profitable.

Presently, for HZL, the company is executing another order for one unit of 80 MW at the same captive power plant, following the excellent performance and high operating availability of the first two units.

BHEL's scope of work in the project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, installation, erection, testing and commissioning of the power plant. Major equipment to be supplied includes; 80 MW Steam Turbine Generator and 320 TPH Pulverised Fuel fired Boilers with state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) and all associated auxiliaries.

While the Steam Turbine Generator will be manufactured at BHEL's Hyderabad plant, the Boiler will be manufactured at its Trichy plant. BHEL's Electronics Division, Bangalore will supply the control system and the auxiliaries will be supplied by its Ranipet plant. The erection and commissioning of the equipment will be carried out by the company's Power Sector - Western Region, Nagpur.

BHEL has emerged as the market leader in co-generation and captive power plants, offering units from 10 MW onwards for both steam turbine based and gas-based combined cycle power projects for total power and process steam requirements of various industries. So far, the company has supplied and commissioned more than 700 steam turbine and gas turbine-based plants for a host of industries like metal, paper, sugar, cement and process industries like refineries, petrochemicals, fertilizer etc.
