CMD, BHEL honoured with Udyog Ratna Award.
Mr Ashok K.Puri, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been awarded the prestigious ‘Udyog Ratna’ Award in recognition of his involvement in the economic development OF Uttranchal State.
BHEL’s units in Uttaranchal are playing a significant role in social and economic development of Uttranchal by contributing more than Rs.1000 Million to the Government Exchequer by way of Sales Tax, Excise Duty and Customs Duty. Also, BHEL’s manufacturing units in the State have developed around 91 ancillaries and other small industries in Uttaranchal, which are providing business and employment to a large number of people directly and indirectly.
Hydro is the main source of power in Uttaranchal and 86% of the installed capacity is equipped with BHEL make equipment. BHEL is presently undertaking Koteshwar (4x100MW) and Maneribhali Stage-II (4x76MW) Hydro Projects in the state besides the Erection & Commissioning of Tehri Hydro Project. BHEL is also actively involved in R&M of various hydro sets in the state.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), BHEL’s, major manufacturing plant at Haridwar has adopted many villages in the vicinity of these units for improving basic amenities like primary education, public health, adult education, construction of community centers etc.
BHEL’s approach to rural development is based on an in-depth study of various socio-economic factors in areas in the periphery of its unit/divisions. The company's rural development programme is based on four main objectives viz. rural development, rural education, rural health & environment and rural employment generation.
BHEL has adopted 56 villages around the country for welfare activities. These villages and their 80,000 inhabitants are benefiting from BHEL’s initiative aimed at all-round grass-root rural development.
