BHEL achieves another landmark in International Busines, Enters a new market - New Caledonia with a Rs.5,500 Million export contract
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited BHEL has further enlarged its global footprint with a foray into a new market New Caledonia, with a prestigious export contract for environment friendly Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion CFBC Boilers. New Caledonia, an island in the south west Pacific Ocean, east of Australia, is an overseas territory of France.
Valued at Rs.5,500 Million, the order for 2x135 MW CFBC Boilers and auxiliaries has been received from Koniambo Nickel SAS, an overseas Joint Venture of the globally diversified mining group Xstrata PLC, Switzerland, with a local New Caledonian company.
This is the first ever overseas order on BHEL for CFBC Boilers for utility application. With this, the company has made an entry in the European market for this environment friendly product, meeting stringent emission norms.
The equipment to be supplied against the order will be fully compliant with global standards for such equipment and shall be manufactured in conformity with the latest European standards.
Riding high on its dominant domestic position, BHEL is taking long strides to become a major global player by enhancing its presence in international markets. It has identified overseas business as one of its thrust areas as part of its Strategic Plan 2012. The company is targeting a six fold increase in its physical exports by 2012.
The high growth momentum gained by the company in international business in the past two years is poised to further stimulate growth in its export business by consolidation in existing markets and widening its export base through expansion of its existing basket of products and services and by entering new markets in the current fiscal and future. BHEL has during the year already achieved major successes in overseas markets including; Captive power project in Indonesia, Gas Turbine Generating units in UAE, Rehabilitation Project in Libya, entry into a host of new market segments like Motors from Kuwait and UAE, Wellheads from Myanmar and Soot Blowers for New Zealand and UAE, besides orders for Transmission equipment from Greece.
Over the years, BHEL has established its footprints in all the six inhabited continents of the world, spanning 70 countries and its technical competence has earned worldwide acclaim.
