BHEL achieves another success in the CIS region; Makes an entry in Belarus with an order for a Cogeneration Power Plant
In the backdrop of a subdued trend in international trade, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved yet another milestone in the CIS region with its first-ever export contract from the Republic of Belarus.
Valued at Rs.2,700 Million, the order for a 120 MW Cogeneration Power Plant, to be set up at Grodno in Belarus, has been received from Grodnoenergo, which is a state enterprise of Republic of Belarus.
Significantly, not only is this is the first-ever export order from Belarus, it is also the first-ever overseas order for a 126 MW Gas Turbine Generator set based Cogeneration Plant, Booster Compressor and Heat Recovery Boiler with auxiliaries and Automatic Process Control System.
The Gas Turbine Generator set with dedicated Auxiliaries, Compressors, Heat Recovery Boiler, Boiler Auxiliaries and Automatic Process Control system for the project shall be supplied from BHEL’s manufacturing units at Hyderabad, Tiruchirapally, Ranipet and Bangalore, respectively.
The CIS region has been identified by BHEL as one of the potential regions for enhancing overseas business. Aimed at establishing a long term presence in CIS countries, BHEL is setting up a Marketing office in Kazakhstan which will be operational in Almaty shortly. The company has also signed a MoU with TGR, Hungary for exploring opportunities for conventional boilers and R&M of boilers in European and CIS countries.
In the CIS region, BHEL has already successfully executed several contracts including a contract with Tengizchevroil for 1x40 MW Gas Turbine Generator set in Kazakhstan; a contract for rehabilitation of Mingechaur Hydro Power Plant and supply of Substation equipment & electrics for Baku Steel Company in Azerbaijan. Presently, the company is executing two Hydro Power Projects in Tajikistan and a contract for supply of Transformers in Azerbaijan.
BHEL has established its footprints in all the six continents of the world - spanning over 70 countries and its technical competence has earned worldwide acclaim. Riding high on its dominant domestic position, BHEL is taking long strides to become a major global player by enhancing its presence in international markets. It has identified overseas business as a major thrust area as part of its ‘Strategic Plan 2012’.
BHEL’s globalisation strategy is already yielding rich dividends and the company has won export orders from 22 countries in 5 continents in fiscal 2008-09. In fact, bucking the global recessionary trend, BHEL achieved a physical export order inflow of Rs.32,650 Million during the year - an increase of 41% over the previous fiscal. The year marked significant steps towards globalisation with successful forays in new markets and new product areas, apart from firmly establishing the company’s presence in existing markets and areas.
