BHEL achieves second breakthrough in UAE; Wins order for Two Gas Turbine Generating Units for barge-mounted Power Plants
Indias largest Power Project exporter, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved another milestone in the Middle East market with a prestigious export contract for 2 Gas Turbine Generating units of 42 MW each from the United Arab Emirates UAE.
Valued at Rs.1,600 Million, the order for the Gas Turbine Generating units has been received from International Energy Resources (IER), UAE. These units will be mounted on barges for Mobile Power Plants and are planned to be used in different locations. With the rapidly increasing need of Power Plants on fast track basis, Independent Power Plant (IPP) developers are developing such Merchant Power Plants that require short gestation and offer mobility.
Significantly, this is the company's second breakthrough in the UAE and comes close on the heels of a similar order for 2 Gas Turbine Generating units of 42 MW each, received from Al Ghail Power LLC, a company wholly owned by Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA), Govt. of Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven Emirates of the UAE.
This achievement paves the way for a number of such opportunities for BHEL in this emerging market. Responding to market requirements, BHEL will be supplying these two machines in a tight schedule by March, 2009 and July, 2009, respectively.
The Middle-East is one of BHEL's key export regions, where it has so far set up 14 power projects, apart from substations and supply of a host of equipment for the power and the oil and gas sectors. This second order for power generating equipment from UAE will further consolidate BHELs position in the Middle-East region, one of the fastest growing markets for power generating equipment globally.
Riding high on its dominant domestic position, BHEL is taking long strides to become a major global player by enhancing its presence in international markets. It has identified overseas business as one of its thrust areas as part of its 'Strategic Plan 2012'. The company is targeting a six-fold increase in its physical exports by 2012.
BHEL has established its footprints in all the six continents of the world, spanning 70 countries and its technical competence has earned worldwide acclaim. Further stimulation in the growth of BHELs international business will be achieved through consolidation in existing markets, widening the export base through expansion of its existing basket of products and services, and by entering new markets, with EPC business being the key driver of its exponential growth plans.
