BHEL and MMTC sign MoU aimed at pushing export of power plant equipment and projects from India
Aimed at providing impetus to the export of power plant equipment and projects from India, Navratna engineering enterprise, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) – the largest manufacturer of power plant equipment and one of the largest exporters of engineering products/projects in India and MMTC Ltd., a Govt. of India owned Five Star Trading House, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate with each other.
The MoU was signed here today by Mr. Ashok K. Puri, Chairman and Managing Director of BHEL and Mr. Sanjiv Batra, Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC Ltd.
The MoU envisages using opportunities as a result of counter trade/ bulk buying by MMTC to promote the export of BHEL equipment in overseas markets, where it is difficult to get payment in hard currency. This MoU will also address the issue of energy security for the country by linking import of fuels, such as coal with the export of power projects.
MMTC and BHEL have already been cooperating in various fields. BHEL has recently commissioned a 24 MW Gas Turbine for MMTC promoted Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd. (NINL), in Orissa. Significantly, this is the first project of this magnitude in Asia where flue gas is being used for production of power – an eco-friendly measure.
BHEL is one of the largest exporters of engineering products and services from India. Over the years, BHEL has established its footprints in around 70 countries encompassing all six inhabited continents of the world.
