BHEL bags contracts for two Hydro Power Projects from APGenco.
In the face of intense competition from European and Chinese multinational companies, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won contracts for the supply and erection of Electromechanical equipment for two separate Hydro Electric Projects (HEP) in Andhra Pradesh.
The order was bagged by BHEL under International Competitive Bidding (ICB), as its offer was found techno-economically the best.
Cumulatively valued at nearly Rs.82 Crore, the orders for Nagarjunasagar Tail Pond Dam (2x25 MW) and Sriramsagar HEP Extn. (1x9 MW), have been placed on BHEL by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) and are a measure of the customer's confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capabilities in execution of hydel power projects.
While Sriramsagar HEP, an extension project of an existing power station is slated for completion in a schedule of 20 months; Nagarjunasagar Tail Pond Dam, a Greenfield project, is targeted for completion in 26 months. BHEL had earlier supplied, erected & commissioned generating equipment at Sriramsagar HEP (2x9 MW) and the customer has lauded the performance of BHEL’s machines.
BHEL’s scope of work in the present contracts envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing and supervision of erection and commissioning of three Vertical Kaplan Turbines (2x25 MW & 1x9 MW) along with matching synchronous Generators and microprocessor-based Control and Excitation equipment, besides other associated auxiliaries.
While the Turbines and Generators will be manufactured at BHEL’s Bhopal plant, the company’s Electronics Division, Bangalore, will supply the state-of-the-art Static Excitation equipment. The supervision of erection and commissioning of the equipment will be carried out by the company's Power Sector - Southern Region.
