BHEL Commissions 250 MW Thermal Unit in Maharashtra; Six Million units of Power to be added to the State Grid – Takes BHEL sets tally in Maharashtra to 88% of installed thermal capacity
New Delhi, February 23: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved another milestone in the execution of power projects with the commissioning of the 250 MW New Parli Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Maharashtra.
With the synchronisation of the 250 MW unit at New Parli TPS of Maharashtra Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco), 6 million units of electricity will be added every day to the grid of the power deficit state of Maharashtra. BHEL had won the contract for this greenfield power station against International Competitive Bidding.
With this, BHEL has so far commissioned nearly 7,300 MW of thermal power generating sets in the state, which constitute around 88% of the total installed thermal capacity of Maharashtra. In addition, during the year, in Maharashtra, the company has also commissioned the 740 MW Block-II of Dabhol Gas-based Power Plant, which was lying closed since the last 6 years.
BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisaged design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the main plant package along with associated auxiliaries for this power project.
Reposing confidence in BHEL’s capability and proven technological excellence, MahaGenco has also placed orders on the company for setting up one unit of 250 MW each at the expansion projects of New Parli and Paras TPS, besides one 500 MW unit at Khaperkheda TPS expansion project and two 500 MW units at Bhusawal TPS expansion project. All the projects are slated for commissioning during the 11th Plan.
Significantly, till date, all the twelve 250 MW thermal units operating in the country have been supplied and commissioned by BHEL.
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of thermal sets up to 500MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating for power projects, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal.
Aimed at gearing up to meet the country's capacity addition targets towards the agenda of providing ‘Power to all by 2012’, BHEL has invested more than Rs.12,000 Million for holistic modernization and capacity expansion of its facilities from 6,000MW per annum at present to 10,000 MW per annum. BHEL also has plans to further increase its capacity to 15,000 MW as required by the country’s power sector. Besides, BHEL has taken steps for upgradation/ introduction of new technologies and tied up to acquire technology to produce thermal power equipment with supercritical parameters for the next higher rating 800 MW sets and above.
