BHEL 'Excel Awards' for meritorious performance announced.
Aimed at promoting and nurturing the culture of excellence in the organization, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced the winners of its 'Excel Awards' for the year 2004-05. The annual awards are presented to BHEL employees for their meritorious achievements in various fields.
The 'Excel' award scheme was conceptualized to motivate BHEL's human resource - the most valuable asset to give competitive advantage in the fiercely competitive and rapidly changing business environment. Introduced in the year 2001, the objective of the 'Excel' award scheme is to recognize, reward and place on record any direct or indirect outstanding contribution by an employee or a group of employees towards growth and profitability of the company and also the society.
The 4th such awards will be ceremoniously presented here on Nov. 26 by Mr.Ashok K. Puri, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, to 28 employees, in the presence of BHEL Directors, distinguished guests, senior officials and other employees of the company. With this, a total of 211 employees and two family members of employees have been conferred the award so far.
The awards are being conferred in various categories viz. Quality, Productivity, Best Technical Paper, Research & Development, Creativity & Innovation and Individual Excellence. In addition, one award will be presented for outstanding contribution in the area of Social Service. Employees, selected for the 4th 'Excel Awards', belong to BHEL Units at Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet, Haridwar and Bangalore, besides Corporate R&D and Power Sector – Western Region.
The scheme stipulates awards in nine categories, carrying a cash award of up to Rs.50,000 for individuals and up to Rupees Five Lakh for groups, in addition to a medallion, a certificate and a citation. The award winners are selected each year by Nov. 13, the date of incorporation of BHEL.
A pioneer in Human Resource Development in India, BHEL realizes the value of quality human resource and that the development of this critical resource has become imperative, in view of a business environment where globalization, competition, customer expectations, fast pace of change and new economic policies pose serious challenges. As a step in this direction, aimed at encouraging individuals to take up improvement projects for capability building and for continuous improvement in every sphere of activity, an Improvement Projects Rewards Scheme (IMPRESS), has also been introduced company-wide. The scheme is e-network based and has a very well defined, structured modus operandi.
