BHEL machines to power Bhilwara Group’s 3rd Hydro Power Plant.
When Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) commissioned the first medium-range hydro IPP of the country - Malana Hydro Electric Project (HEP), in a record time of just 27 months, it didn’t just complete another contract. It went a step ahead and cemented its relationship with the promoters of the project – the Bhilwara group.
Nearly five years down the line, the customer’s faith in choosing BHEL as the preferred equipment supplier stands vindicated. Operating at an impressive unit availability of over 99%, the 86 MW (2x43 MW) power plant at in Kulu district of Himachal Pradesh, has been efficiently and uninterruptedly contributing towards easing the power situation in the power deficit state of Delhi as the entire power generated is being supplied to the capital.
Reflecting its satisfaction on the excellent performance and project execution capabilities of BHEL, the customer has once again reposed confidence in BHEL and placed yet another prestigious order for their upcoming 192 MW (2x96 MW) Allain Duhangan HEP near Manali in HP.
Outbidding major European multinational corporations, the order was won by BHEL under stiff International Competitive Bidding (ICB), as its offer was found techno-economically the best. BHEL will commission the project in a tight schedule of 30 months.
Earlier, for the same customer, BHEL had supplied, erected & commissioned generating equipment for their 2x6.75 MW Tawa HEP in Madhya Pradesh and that project was commissioned in a record 24 months. BHEL’s machines at the project are generating higher than the rated capacity of 6.75 MW consistently and their performance has also been lauded by the customer.
BHEL's scope of work in the present contract envisages design, manufacture, supply, erection & commissioning of two state-of-the-art high-head Pelton hydro turbines of 96 MW each with matching generators, digital governors and microprocessor-based control and monitoring system, besides associated auxiliaries. While the hydro sets will be manufactured at BHEL's Bhopal plant, the state-of-the-art controls will be supplied by the company's Electronics Division, Bangalore. BHEL’s Power Sector – Northern Region will undertake the execution on site.
Over the years, BHEL has supplied and commissioned thermal, hydro and gas-based power generating equipment with a cumulative capacity of over 2,700 MW to several power projects promoted by Independent Power Producers like Tata Power, Reliance Energy, Ahmedabad Electricity Supply Company, CESC, Bhilwara and Jindal groups etc.
