BHEL once again outbids Chinese company in International Competitive Bidding; Bags Rs.21,080 Million Contract for installing 2 sets of 525 MW each at Maithon
Once again outbidding a leading Chinese equipment supplier under International Competitive Bidding (ICB), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won an order for the supply and installation of the Steam Generators and Steam Turbines package at the upcoming Maithon Right Bank Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand, involving two units of 525 MW each.
Valued at over Rs.21,080 Million, the order for the Greenfield power project has been placed on BHEL by Maithon Power Limited (MPL), a joint venture company of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
Significantly, this is the first ever order secured by BHEL for the new rating units of 525 MW each and is a testimony to the customer’s confidence in the company’s capabilities and proven technological excellence.
BHEL’s scope of work in the project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Steam Generators, Turbine Generators, Electrostatic Precipitators and associated auxiliaries, besides state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I).
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of thermal sets up to 525 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal.
Having demonstrated its track record in successfully establishing new technologies to serve the nation’s power sector, BHEL is now poised to introduce 800 MW thermal sets with supercritical parameters. In addition, the company is shoring up its capability for higher rating Hydro sets and advanced-class Gas Turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
BHEL is building Capacity and Capability to contribute fully for meeting the country’s power forecast for the 11th Plan and beyond. For this, the company is enhancing its manufacturing capacity in the next three years, from 6,000 MW to 15,000 MW per annum. Besides, the company has taken broad steps like shift in operational focus from Product to Project and implementation of effective Project Management Systems.
