BHEL once again outbids Chinese company; Wins Rs.1,060 Million contract for Turbo Blower Package from RINL

Outbidding a Chinese multinational in an open global tender, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won an order for a Turbo Blower package from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL).

The Turbo Blower package will be installed at RINL’s Vizag Steel Plant as part of the ongoing expansion project to raise the capacity of the plant to 6.3 Million Tons per annum.

Valued at over Rs.1,060 Million, the order has been placed on BHEL in consortium with MAN Turbo, Germany, as its offer was found techno-economically more superior than its Chinese competitor. The contract will be executed in a tight schedule of 28 months. The Turbo Blower will be supplied by MAN Turbo, Germany.

The state-of-the-art Turbo Blower will generate compressed air at a high pressure to enhance combustion in the blast furnace thereby resulting in hastening the steel melting process.

BHEL’s scope of work in the project envisages manufacture and supply of a 45 MW Steam Turbine with associated auxiliaries and balance of plant, in addition to site erection and commissioning of the complete Turbo Blower Package. BHEL’s units at Hyderabad and Bangalore will supply the equipment while the company’s Power Sector - Southern Region will undertake the site erection and commissioning activities.

For RINL, BHEL has earlier supplied and commissioned 3x63 MW Steam Turbine Generators and 5x330 Tons per Hour multifuel fired Boilers. All the machines are performing well since commissioning to the satisfaction of the customer.

BHEL has emerged as the market leader in captive power plants, offering units from 10 MW and above for both steam and gas turbine-based power projects for meeting power and steam requirements of various industries. So far, the company has supplied more than 700 steam and gas turbines for a host of industries like refineries, petrochemicals, aluminium, steel, cement, sugar, textiles, etc.

Notably, BHEL secured the highest ever orders of Rs.60,080 Million in its Industry Sector business segment, during fiscal 2006-07.
