BHEL secures mega turnkey contracts for setting up 2 power projects of 1,000 MW each from DVC; Projects to add 48 million units every day to the Grid on commissioning
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won International Competitive Bidding (ICB) contracts for setting up two units of 500 MW each at Koderma Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Jharkhand and two units of 500 MW each at Durgapur Steel TPS in West Bengal, both on turnkey basis.
Valued at over Rs.65,000 Million, the orders have been placed on BHEL by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) who have once again reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude.
Slated for synchronisation during the 11th Plan, the projects are identified to supply power to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection testing and commissioning of Steam Turbines, Generators, Boilers, associated Auxiliaries, Balance of Plant and Electricals besides state-of-the-art Controls & Instrumentation (C&I), Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) and Switchyard, including civil works.
BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of thermal sets up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating. So far, orders for 58 numbers of 500 MW rating sets have been won, of which 31 have been commissioned.
Having demonstrated its track record in successfully establishing new technologies to serve the nation’s power sector, BHEL is now poised to introduce 800 MW thermal sets with supercritical parameters. BHEL has equipped itself to produce thermal power equipment for 800 MW sets and above, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal. In addition, the company is shoring up its capability for higher rating Hydro sets and advanced class Gas Turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
Aimed at equipping itself to meet the country's power capacity addition targets in the 11th plan and beyond, BHEL is enhancing its manufacturing capacity in the next three years, from the current level of 6,000 MW to 15,000 MW per annum with a total investment of around Rs.32,000 Million.
