BHEL to set up 490 MW Power Plant for NTPC at Dadri

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a major contract from India's largest Power Utility - NTPC, for setting up the first unit of 490 MW capacity, at its National Capital Thermal Power Project (NCTPP) Stage-II, at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.

With this, NTPC has once again reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude. The project is slated for commissioning in fiscal 2009-10.

BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the main plant package for the 490 MW power project. Notably, aimed at reducing the consumption of coal, the unit shall be designed for operating at a higher reheat steam temperature of 565 degree Celsius.

The equipment for the project shall be supplied by BHEL’s Haridwar, Trichy, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Bhopal and Jhansi plants, while the company’s Power Sector – Northern Region will undertake the erection and commissioning of the equipment.

BHEL has earlier supplied and commissioned Boilers and Steam Turbine Generators for the 4x210 MW Stage-I of NCTPP, Dadri and was also associated with NTPC’s 817 MW Combined Cycle Power Project at the same location.

For NTPC, BHEL is presently executing contracts at Kahalgaon STPS (1,500 MW) in Bihar, Vindhyachal STPS (1,000 MW) in Madhya Pradesh, Talcher STPS (2,000 MW) in Orissa, Sipat STPS (1,000 MW) in Chhattisgarh and Feroze Gandhi Unchahar TPS (210MW) in Uttar Pradesh.

BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of thermal sets of the above rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000 MW rating for power projects suited to Indian conditions using Indian as well as imported coal.
