BHEL wins EPC contract for 700 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant through International Competitive Bidding
Against stiff competition under International Competitive Bidding ICB, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited BHEL has won a contract for setting up another Combined Cycle Power Plant in Gujarat on Engineering Procurement and Construction EPC basis, involving supply and commissioning of two Advanced class Frame 9FA Gas Turbines.
Valued at Rs.1,893 Crore, the order for a 700 MW 2x350 MW Gas Turbine based Combined Cycle Power Plant CCPP to be installed near Pipavav in Amreli district in the coastal Saurashtra region of Gujarat, has been placed by GSPC Pipavav Power Company GPPC, a subsidiary of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation GSPC.
While the first block will be commissioned by BHEL in 30 months, the second block is slated for completion in a schedule of 33 months. The entire power generated by the project would be sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. to bridge the demand supply gap in the power deficit state of Gujarat.
BHEL has recently won similar EPC contracts from Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited GSEG for a 350 MW Gas Turbine based CCPP to be installed at Hazira in Gujarat and Reliance Industries Limited RIL for a 345 MW Gas Turbine based CCPP to be installed at Nagothane in district Raigad of Maharashtra.
BHELs scope of work in the present project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two blocks of 350 MW gas based CCPP, each with one Frame 9FA Gas Turbine Generator set, one Steam Turbine Generator set and one Heat Recovery Steam Generator with state of the art Controls and Instrumentation, associated auxiliaries and balance of plant, in addition to complete civil works and select spares.
BHEL is building Capacity and Capability to contribute fully for meeting the power forecast for the 11th Plan and beyond. For this, the company has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW per annum and is further augmenting it to 15,000 MW per annum in the next two years.
Having demonstrated its track record in successfully establishing new technologies to serve the nations power sector, BHEL has equipped itself to produce thermal power equipment for 800 MW sets with supercritical parameters, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal. In addition, the company is shoring up its capability for higher rating Hydro sets and advanced class Gas Turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
