BHEL wins Rs.13,000 Million Contract for installing 500 MW unit at Ennore

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won an order for the supply and installation of the Boiler, Turbine and Generator (BTG) Package as an extension of the upcoming Vallur Thermal Power Project at Ennore in Tamil Nadu, involving one unit of 500 MW.

Valued at around Rs.13,000 Million, the order has been placed on BHEL by NTPC-Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (NTECL), a joint venture company of NTPC and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).

Significantly, BHEL is already executing a contract for the 2x500 MW Greenfield Vallur power project of NTECL and the present order for the extension project is a testimony to the customer’s confidence in BHEL’s capabilities and proven technological excellence.

Being set up under Govt of India’s Mega Power Project policy, the 1,500 MW Vallur project will add nearly 36 million units every day to the grid on commissioning.

BHEL’s scope of work in the present contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Steam Turbine, Generator, Boiler and Associated Auxiliaries, besides state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) system.

BHEL is associated with NTPC and its JVs for execution of several ongoing projects namely Barh Stage-II, Simhadri Stage-II, Mauda STPP, Vindhyachal Stage-IV, Rihand Stage-III, Farakka Stage-III, Aravali Jhajjar STPP, etc., totaling to around 15,000 MW.

BHEL has fully established state-of-the-art technology for the manufacture of thermal sets up to 1,000 MW rating. The company has also introduced new rating thermal sets of 270 MW, 525 MW and 600 MW to meet customer demand. In fiscal 2008-09, the installed capacity of BHEL-supplied Utility sets went up to 87,646 MW and the company maintained its share of 64% in the country's total installed capacity of 1,38,175 MW.

BHEL has been committed to the nation’s power development programme and has reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian Power Sector by equipping itself for the future, by way of technology, facilities and trained manpower to meet the country’s power forecast for the 11th Plan and beyond. For this, it has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW per annum and is further augmenting it to 15,000MW per annum which is proceeding apace and plans are afoot to hike it further to 20,000 MW by 2011-12.
