MNES & BHEL jointly organize a convention on “PHYSICS OF SOLAR ENERGY".
The Solar Energy Centre (MNES) and Amorphous Silicon Solar Cell Plant (ASSCP- BHEL) are jointly organizing a two day Convention (Dec.23-24) at BHEL Gwalpahari, Gurgaon as part of celebrations to mark “The International Year of Physics IYP 2005."
The Convention is being also being organized worldwide to raise public awareness for Physics of Solar Energy coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's "Miraculous Year” in which he published three important papers including "Special Theory of Relativity.
The Convention would provide an opportunity to celebrate Einstein's great ideas and his influence on life in the 21st Century.
Over 100 senior officials/experts from Deptt of Science & Technology, MNES, BHEL, IIT, IREDA are expected to participate in this Meet. The eminent speakers include Dr. SK.Sikka, Scientific Secretary to Principal Scientific Advisor to Govt. of India and Prof. AK Ghatak, Emeritus Professor of Physics, IIT, Delhi. Talks by eminent scientists will cover subjects like environment friendly technologies as well as emerging areas of physics, viz., nano-technology, hydrogen generation, LED illumination, Solar thermal/phtovoltaics etc.
The Amorphous Silicon Solar Cell Plant (ASSCP), Gurgaon has been established by BHEL on behalf of Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources (MNES). ASSCP is presently engaged in research and development activities in the area of solar photovoltaics.
BHEL manufactures Solar Photovoltaics(SPV) modules at its Electronics Division, Bangalore and has supplied solar modules/systems generating nearly 15 MW of power for applications in Grid Interactive SPV power plants, street lights, community lights, rural telephone exchanges, unmanned offshore oil platforms, railways signaling, microwave repeater stations, water pumping systems, petrol pumps, rural banks etc. The Company has also exported solar cells and modules to various countries including Germany, Australia and Italy.
