Rs.9,000 Million Landmark order for BHEL in Oman.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved yet another break-through in International Market by securing a prestigious export contract of the order of Rs.9,000 Million for two Power Projects on turnkey basis in Sultanate of Oman.

The order has been won in the face of stiff International Competition on the basis of online internet bidding, from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), a company majority owned by the Government of Oman with the balance shareholding by Royal Dutch Shell, Partex and Total.

These are the largest unit rating Gas Turbines being installed by PDO. With this order, BHEL supplied generating sets will account for over 40% of PDO’s installed generating capacity, demonstrating the confidence that PDO has in BHEL’s capabilities. Apart from this, BHEL is presently executing three orders for their compressors Projects in Oman. BHEL in fact has so far secured orders close to Rs.16,000 Million from PDO, during its seven years association.

This is the third order for BHEL for Gas Turbines based Power Projects from PDO and comes after successful completion of the 140 MW Gas Turbine based Qarn Alam Power project in the year 2004 and 90 MW Gas Turbine based Hubara Power project for PDO Oman in the year 2000.

The present order envisages setting up of two Gas Turbine based turnkey Power Projects with 2 x 126 MW Power plant at Mukhaizna and 1x126 MW Power plant at Qarn Alam. The scope includes design, supply, civil construction, Erection and Commissioning of these Power Projects. While Mukhaizna site is situated at around 600 Kilometres from Muscat, the Qarn Alam site is situated around 400 Kilometres from Muscat. Both the projects are to be completed in 23 months time.

This is the sixth Power Project being put up by BHEL in Sultanate of Oman, a stronghold of BHEL’s export market. Having already set up utility Power Plants for Ministry of Electricity and Water of Oman and captive power plant of Oman Cement Company, BHEL’s versatility to meet varying needs of different sectors like Power, Industry and Oil etc. conforming to global standards stand established.

The Gas turbines, Generators and associated equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s units at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Jhansi, while installation and civil works will be undertaken by Power Sector – Eastern Region, BHEL Kolkata.
